MAOL Program Overview

Why A Leadership Master's Degree

With a focus on execution and repeatable results, or what we know as the day-to-day running of business, MBA programs train people to focus on an organization’s business systems. Business systems, however, are only one of the forces that power the organization. Furthermore, they can obstruct seeing two additional views of equal importance: the integration systems and the human systems. The challenges, opportunities and flexibility inherent to contemporary organizational models demand a reckoning with and a synthesis of all three: business systems through management sciences, integration systems through developmental crafts and human systems through leadership arts. This expanded scope is the focus of the MAOL.

In MAOL, candidates learn to innovate in management, discover in development, and create in leadership. By studying organization through the triple lens of management sciences, developmental crafts and leadership arts, a clearer vision of future potential begins to emerge. The moment in which this synthesized image resolves is when breakthroughs—for both the organization and for the individual—are born.

Understanding the interplay of business, integration and human systems helps us deal with the complex, chaotic, quantum sociological and cultural dimensions of organization. MAOL prepares leaders to be effective in designing organizations that have a strong bias for success.
